Every morning him he would choose the flowers carefully with the Gardner. They were placed in a custom made box which had five compartments which held flat bottomed bottles  filled with water. The little mobile flower holder with choice flowers would then be placed in his car

When he would visit people he would take his bunch of colour and fragrance and present it to his host. He would accept the heart felt thanks but watchfully wait for a while. If the flowers were kept away on a table, he would politely request a glass of water. No words spoken he would sip his water and then place the flowers in the half filled glass of water. He loved his flowers. He cared. In this a lesson. Take care of the beautiful things gifted to you. Flowers too need care and so do all who bring us joy. Nurture them and they last and give you joy

He would spend  time in his garden making these bunches,  he would select some of the choice flowers for his daughter keeping in mind the vases she always had ready for them - twice a week a father would send his love to her, with flowers. The fragrance and colours would surround her all week. Today her garden continues to bring her this joy, always reminding  her of a fathers care

The ROSE was special and the best was reserved for his son in law. The best bloom would adorn his dressing table. One fern and one rose. Something to look at daily.

And for the fisher folk who came by the fragrant  the Champa or the magnolia or choice flowers for their hair. He was the flower man with the big heart who brought colour to the street he lived on.

In memory of a grand dad I never met but whose stories make me feel he was always around. Whose love for flowers lives on in my Mom and in all of us blessing us every day
